Fort Oglethorpe Historic District

Welcome to the PCA's website dedicated to the Fort Oglethorpe Historic District.  Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, is unique amoung its sister cities of Northwest Georgia.  Its position in the military history of the United States is well-documented.  It is the northern gateway to the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park and lies just seven miles south of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

June 2008
* June 6-8, 6th U.S. Cavalry Association Memorial Service and Museum Open House, held Barnhardt Circle, Fort Oglethorpe, GA.  The Memorial Service will be held at The Post’s flagpole Sunday at 12:00 pm, followed by museum open house and refreshments. The public is invited. Call 706-861-2860 for more information.

July 2007
* July 3, Patriotism at The Post will present fireworks, patriotic music, flag display, children’s activities and museum tours.  Concert at 8:00 pm, fireworks at dark.

September 2008
* September 1, Labor Day at the Post is the traditional Monday event with arts & crafts, children’s activities and food.  The celebration is kicked off with a parade, military vehicle show, and of course....award winning BBQ.  Parade at 11:00 am.  Activities continue until 5:00 pm.

November 2008
* November, Fort Oglethorpe Candlelight Homes Tour.  Step back in time and visit historic homes around Barnhardt Circle.  Constructed circa 1904, these US Army Officer's homes are full of history.  Time to be determined.

December 2008
* December 6, Fort Oglethorpe Christmas Parage and Santa Party at the Post.  Parade at 6pm, with Santa arriving at the bandstand on the polo field to visit with the children. Refreshments served, carols sung and $200 cash giveaway to one lucky adult.

The United States Army Post of Fort Ogethorpe, Georgia, was established in 1902.  The permanent buildings were substantially complete by 1904.  The Sunday afternoon Polo matches were famous throughout southeastern Tennessee and northwestern Georgia.
