Building No. 71

On Barnhardt Circle is the Band Stand, completed on September 22, 1905.  The Band Stand cost $739.50.  With the help of Senator Jeff Mullis, enough money was acquired from the State of Georgia to restore the Band Stand in recent years.

Double Officers' Quarters, capacity for 2 Captains and families. For many years, this dwelling has been divided into four rental apartments.  Purchased in February of 2005, the new owners plan to eventually convert it back to its original floorplan as a duplex.

Single Officers’ Quarters , capacity for a Field Grade Officer and his family, total area above basement is 4,612 SF, completed in 1904 at a cost of $10,901.50.  In March of 1907, window screens were installed at a cost of $85.  Later, screens were added to basement and attic for $26.50.  Since the 1980’s the owners have made many wonderful improvements, repairs and updates, including an extensive wine cellar.

Double Officers’ Quarters, capacity for 2 Lieutenants and families, total area above the basement is 6,900 SF, completed in 1905 for $13,903.  This house received screens in 1907 and 1908 and a new roof in 1923 for $297.81.  At one time, the property was owned by the Catholic Church and used to house the serving nuns.  In 2002, the house was purchased by its present owners and is in the process of undergoing a complete renovation/restoration.

Band Barracks, capacity 28 men, total area above the basement is 4,050 SF, completed in 1904 at a cost of $14,006.50.   In 1906, 28 steel lockers were installed.  Screens were installed in 1906 and 1907.   Toilet facilities were installed in 1917.  In 1932, 3 flush valves took the place of the tanks for a cost of $29.47.  The property once was the Catholic Rectory, then an apartment building.   In 1999  this home was totally restored and transformed into a single family dwelling.

Double Officers’ Quarters, capacity for 2 Lieutenants and families, total area above basement is 5,295 SF, completed in 1904 at a cost of $12,395.50.  In March of 1907, screens were installed at a price of $100.  During the latter part of 1907 into 1908, screens were installed in the attic and basement at a cost of $47.

 

Amid the treasures in this home, there is a radiator in the dining room with a warming oven, an original “call box”, a butler’s pantry that has recently been restored, a sunroom addition which allows access to both sides of the house and is home to the owner's extensive and ever-growing collection of Violets.

Double Officers Quarters, capacity for 2 Captains and families, total area above basement is 8,673 SF, completed in 1905 at a cost of $18,610.  In March 1907, screens were installed for $125 and the attic and basement screens added in 1908 were an additional $32.50.  For years this house was divided into 7 apartments.  The house was purchased in 2002 and has been converted into a triplex.
